3D - CHARACTER ARTIST

Remote/Freelancing

Gamaddict is looking for a 3D Character Artist to help create engaging and AAA quality levels for our Indie AAA title "Afraid". As the Character Artist  you will be responsible for modeling the characters required in the production of a game.

With a mix of observation, skill, and imagination, you add the details that define characters, objects, and environments. You take inspiration from reality to build believable materials, and adapt to new tools to push them to their full potential. You freely choose the methods that work best for you to create a finished look that fits the feel of the game and makes it memorable.

Responsibilities:

  • Produce models according to the Lead’s directives to better understand their limits and deadlines ;

  • Understand project limitations, milestones and risks and work accordingly;

  • Become familiar with graphic references to understand the artistic director’s intentions;

  • Create efficient and rig friendly low polygon models for the game integration;

  • Provide proxy models for game integration;

  • Model rough characters in Blender, 3DS Max, etc taking into account skeletal proportions to set basis

  • for character structure;

  • Texture using Photoshop to apply and give colour to characters and generating normal maps to create texture;

  • Export models and textures into engine and make sure they work correctly;

  • Touch-up textures after engine integration to optimise quality;

  • Clean up scanned data;

Qualifications:

  • A minimum 3-5 years’ experience in game development modeling and texturing highly realistic characters using 3ds Max and Photoshop (or equivalent 3D and 2D programs);

  • Experience in high quality game production.

  •  Knowledge of 2D art tools (e.g. Photoshop) and familiarity with 3D software (e.g. 3DS Max, ZBrush, or Maya) + game engines (e.g. Unity or Unreal)

  • Aesthetic sensitivity and a keen eye for even the subtlest of details!

Abilities that will make you shine:

  • Exceptional understanding of human anatomy, and clothing and a keen eye towards form, shape, structure, and silhouette in regards to modeling;

  • Attention to detail since the beauty of the characters are key elements of the player’s experience;

  • Superior eye for color and detail in creating texture maps;

  • Ability to take initiative to learn and adapt to new project practices based on evolving technologies;

  • Knowledge of other 2D-3D software is considered a plus;

  • Previous experience working in the gaming industry is considered a plus;

  • 3+ years’ experience as a 3D Character Artist. Multiple shipped games.
